Mario's wines are regarded as prime examples of the finest traditional Californian redwood vatting, supported by unparalleled grape quality and aged in non-traditional French Nevers Oak. The winery has thrived for over six decades, producing award-winning wines. Even after two decades since Mr. Gemello's sale, Gemello's wines have continued to win industry blind tastings. In 2002, the 1970 Gemello Cabernet Sauvignon was ranked first by 14 out of 16 judges in a local recreation of the famous 1976 Judgment of Paris, which pitted California and French wines against each other."
