"Francois Cotat’s 2022 Caillottes is a lighter-bodied, delicate wine with fine tensions and texture, which Cotat believes is down to the vineyard’s chalky soils. It’s aromatically restrained with subtle honey and biscuity notes meeting freshness. Despite Cotat’s reputation for picking late and recent warm vintages (such as 2020) showing some high alcohols knocking the balance, this is just 12.8% and all the better for it."
Winemaker Notes:
"‘Caillottes’ means little stones. This vineyard (a flatter area, due east of the slope where the ‘Monts Damnés’ vineyard is found), with its thin limestone soils, is planted to young vines. Zesty notes of lime and white pepper; sweet yellow fruit. A more “approachable,” early drinking Cotat that nonetheless captures the depth and persistence of the Cotat style. Aromas of crisp pear, white pepper, lemon and lime zest. Fresh, dry, pure; yellow fruits mix with crushed oyster shells."
