"The 2022 Pinot Noir Amour Interdit was harvested from a 1981-planted plot in Grand Cru Mambourg, aged in one 500-liter barrel. Slight smoke meets a tentative red cherry note on the nose. The palate is dense with fine, spiderweb-like tannins, still with a smoky edge and a suspicion of licorice. But, an inherent coolness rises from the fruit, showing exquisite limestone depth. This is dense and structured, for now with some astringency, but it will melt into sheer pleasure with its pure red fruit. Lovely. (Bone-dry)"

"There is no technical Alsace Grand Cru for red wines, but our candidate on quality and on provenance would be this bottle, the ‘Amour Interdit.’ Born from the sunny, south-facing soils of grand cru Mambourg in Sigolsheim, ‘Amour Interdit’ is a stupendous Pinot Noir, smoky and sultry and built for the long haul. This “forbidden love” is winemaker Charles Sparr’s secret: he too thinks this gem deserves grand cru status. Aromas of red berries, brown spices, crushed stones, red plum. Medium-bodied and plush, with good energy."
