“The white 2019 El Helechal macerated with the skins for one week, shorter than in previous years, as they are trying to avoid the tannins from the variety. Rufete Blanco has a thick skin, lacks fruit and has high acidity, which should enable the wines to develop nicely in bottle, but early on, the wines were a bit too extreme for some consumers. The "orangeness" seems more controlled, and the wine feels a little more austere and stonier, more soil- than fruit-driven. It's a peculiar white, closer to an Albarín than other white varieties. It has an austere palate, with a dry and stony finish. 1,800 bottles were filled in May 2021.”
