"As one would expect of a wine that has not had time to make a full turn to maturation, this one is still very much on the uptick, and its refined, rich heart comes with tannin to resolve. Some folks dismissed the 1998 vintage; this wine shows why we are comfortable with our predictions that the best of them are going to age into very elegant wines. It impresses as more of a 20-year wine than a thirty-year wine, but it also impresses as a wine that is already proving itself to be far more successful than its supposed vintage image. Chunky stuff."
