"This was the last vintage made in the Mondavi winery, and they go out on a high. A clear touch of caramel, this is silky smooth and swirling with gourmet spice, lifted up by a touch of crushed fresh mint on the finish. Again the tannins are striking in their construction and soft texture. 30 days skin contact, the growing season here saw a cool winter and a late bud break, but a normal summer and ideal harvest."

"The 1990 Opus One is another powerful wine built on a serious core of tannin and structure. There is plenty of richness in the glass, but a little less intensity and complexity that the best wines of this era. I imagine the 1990 will still be a delicious wine in another decade. The 1990 is 97% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc and 3% Merlot."
